caring for corkscrew hazel

Asked on 23 Jun, 2008

I have a corkscrew hazel in a container on my patio.it has been potted with a peat free compost and is located in a sunny aspect, it seems as though it is dying though because the leaves are wilting and turning brown.(is this normal for time of year?) also I had one last year in similair conditions and this has died off, im beginning to wonder if soil conditions arent ideal?

If the leaves are turning brown then that is worrying - I know that ordinarily the leaves on this plant can look like they are wilting - to the extent where it actually looks quite ugly in the summer - it comes into its own when it is leaf-less - so wilty looking leaves wouldn't worry, but them turning brown would. The obvious questions might be how much do you water/feed it?

water it every other day in summer, once a week feed it.
