Pilosocereus azureus repotting "ouch"

Please can you advise of a safe method of repotting my BAD BOY, I was badly perforated last time despite wearing thick leather gardening gloves. 55cm tall and rather thinner at the base so a little fragile.

I read somewhere to use a newspaper wrapped around the Trunk!..Good Luck with bad boy Ams...

a strip of cardboard is also good for the job!
