hi my 8 yr old cordyline has been frost damaged so i think i need to cut back.its 8ft with one thick trunk and four thick branches which are now losing their far down should i cut,do i need to cover the open cuts and when is the best time?

Wait a bit - till mid April at least, in hopes its a bit warmer then, then cut the trunk down by a quarter or a half. If the trunk is soggy when you do it, then its probably a goner, though it might still shoot from the base. If nothing by end of May, get rid.
