I have a cordyline and I too have noticed sap coming from the bark, but almost at the bottom, and the newest of leaves at the top have died. Is there any hope? or do I wait a few months?

Doesn't sound good, does it, if its weeping from the base. You can try cutting it right back to the ground and waiting to see if it re shoots from the roots - depends how patient you are!
