can i replant my poker or would it dieor not flower this year

Your poker should have been left in the ground over winter. You might be lucky if is still showing any sign of life plant it ASAP. Cover it with something to keep the frost off. I cut mine back to 1', and tie up the leaves to over winter them. In late April I unwrap them and they flower May June time.
