Bulbs
Bulbs
Asked on 14 Jun, 2008
I have lots of bulbs in pots and I want to put them in the ground. I've taken some out of their pot and since there were lots of roots I cut most off. Now I'm wondering if I should have done this. Can anyone tell me if I did the right thing so that I don't harm the rest of the bulbs ?

I would leave the roots on the remaining bulbs. Bulbs store nutrients in the bulb, so your plants will live, but they GAIN nutrients from the roots. Yours may be a bit slow this year, remember to fertilize to help roots grow back.

When digging bulbs up you can either find a space in the garden and bury them with the foliage still showing until it dies off or just leave them to dry out in the actual pots then knock the soil from them and store until end September and replant either in frest compost in pots or in the garden.
