why do my roses loose almost all their leaves yet the blooms are fine

Have they got dark blotches on them? If so, your roses are suffering from 'blackspot' and you need to clear up the leaves and burn them. It's a bit too late to spray them now, but next year, start spraying them with 'Roseclear' or similar as soon as the leaves appear, then monthly through the growing season. If any spots start, remove the affected leaves at once.
