Our well established Virginia creeper ( vigne vierge) suddenly wilted and lost all its leaves this summer. Is it dead? Attached is a photo of a fungus that has appeared at its base. is it honey fungus?

As MG says, looks like it. I've uploaded a photo onto my pics to show the fruiting body and the distinctive ring under the cap.

there are 7 species of HF. they are not all as bad as feared. I have one of the less rampant ones, only invading the dying plants, rather than the ones that attack and effectively kill the plant. I sent samples off to the RHS and they identified it for me.
