I have been reading answers to questions etc for a while and now its my turn to ask for help please. I am going for a career change and am starting my own garden maintenance business but need help on what to call it - It wont be hardscape landscaping, more upkeep, plant / lawn care, shrubs planting etc. Perhaps not politically correct but as a female I was going to use that to my advantage as to the type of client I was trying to market towards, I like the idea of plants in the title , I live in Cheshire but don't really want an "area" name. I liked the idea of "lost the plot" in a roundabout way - but not that so............ any ideas would be great please.

How about "That Gardening Girl Friday". If people find it amusing and easy to remember it might help. When customers are asked who they used it slips off the tongue. I'm not going to explain it. If it needs an explanation, its useless.

I've no ideas for you but wanted to say hi as I'm in Cheshire too, not many Cheshire gardeners on here so it's great to meet another one:) Around Knutsford where I work, there are lots of people in big houses who have gardeners. Hopefully you should find plenty of customers.

'Touch of Grass'! or something like 'Phone a Gardener' I am sure it will come to you good luck with it.

You could always nick an idea from a character in a childrens book - if you can think of one which had a bit of nostalgia about it, don't think Mr MacGregor from Peter Rabbit quite cuts it!
Flower Fairies theme? as in someone else is doing it! There's loads of Cecily Mary Barkers flower fairies to chose from.
The Garden Fairy may be a bit twee, garden girls, targeting single female who would prefer a woman about the place.
Gardening Thyme
Needs a lot of thought really for something so important!

Some really good ideas for names, thank you to everyone for replying. Its a big career change for me and naturally, I want it to succeed and spend my time doing something I enjoy rather than spending life in one big stress cloud.

Is there any mileage in incorporating your name? (I used to have a friend Theresa Green - no joke - which in the dialect became Trees-are Green)

What, Islay Down?! Islay Lawns?

It really doesn't matter what your name is, make one up that will catch peoples eyes and be a talking point. Something like, == Whatever Trade Name == Proprietor - Daniel. D. Lyons. I once saw a car with a big official looking sign on the back which said "Caution, Blind Man Driving". I was shocked to see this and couldn't understand how on earth a person with no sight was allowed to drive. It was only when I looked at the side of the car and saw it was a rep for a window blind company.

Another time I saw a builders van with the name on the side which was obviously Asian. It read, "You've tried the cowboys, now try the Indians" What I'm trying to say is, people will remember things like this as I have from years back and tell other people, who will tell lots more others... How about Leaf It To Me !!!!

An update! Well.......I did it, I gave up the "proper job" ( and the salary !) and started my own business on April 7th. Rachel's Gorgeous Gardens .....I've been offering all types of gardening and have been inundated with work. I have regular "maintenance contracts" and one off "sort outs".
The positives.....
1. a work life balance finally
2. Job and customer satisfaction
3. New friends and places
4. Loving my job
5. Accepting that there is no chance in the world on coming home 7 hours later without dirty knees, hands and arms etc, mascara smudges under my eyes, hair like a scarecrow but......A huge smile on my face
And the negatives.....
1. I am cream crackered at the end of the day.....but how much better being physically worn out than mentally worn out.
2. Flooding the petrol mowers engine ( again) when in a hurry to get finished for a client ( and again and again )
3. Realising I have arachnophobla. ...just how big do garden spiders get?????
So. .....anyone else thinking of "giving it all up" for a little gardening job. ...go for it !
