I suspect someone who saw it just sees it as a caterpillar and as it eats leaves it is deemed a pest by some. I'm with you on this one.
Contact the 'boys' or flag to administrators who may be able to do something about it.

nowt so strange as folk.

Interesting though. We used to feed them on Milkweed in glass tanks in my classroom (Auckland, NZ) and follow the process through to hatching. Beautiful chrysalis, jade and gold leaf.

Thanks Seaburngirl...you are right. The person looking after the pests page is not the same person who put the pic on the pests page in the first place. It's been there for years and I only just saw it. I confused things further because it was posted on my other page...the one I started back in Feb. of 2008 when I joined Goy...to record my city garden. When we moved out here to the country I changed my page and handle to lorilyn57 to keep the two separate but in the process lost contact with some of my oldest goymates. So I go back and forth...sorry for the confusion.
Worthy1:...Here in Canada, we did the same in our classrooms as children. The Chrysalis is a thing of true beauty. I agree...the little gold dots fascinated me! There are several plants called milkweed world wide...the one they frequent here is Asclepias...it has the most heavenly scent when in bloom, fosters the Monarchs, and has downy parachute sees in the autumn! A plant I continue to keep in my garden even tho most people consider it a weed....sad that it is so under-appreciated.
