Plants for strong winds

I live by the Mersey and the garden suffers very strong winds. Can you suggest some shrubs and perennials.

Tamarix, Viburnum tinum, some of the Hebes, Brachyglottis, Pyracantha, Ceanothus, Potentilla, Spartiun junceum are examples of shrubs...Perennials: Armeria, Achillea, Coreopsis vercillicata, Penstemon, Veronica spicata, Phlox subulata, various ornamental grasses. List could go on - hope that lot gives you some ideas.
