Why do they give me headaches?

There are lots of Peonies where I live (Sierra de Guadarrama, Madrid, Spain). I used to take this plant home because it is beautiful. But I don’t do it anymore because gets the whole house dirty. It also gives me headaches. I was surprised to hear that they are a medicinal plant. What are the medicinal benefits of Peonies? Why do they give me headaches?

The odour of many flowers can trigger a headache. A recent study found that up to 50 percent of migraine headaches are associated with sensitivity to perfumes, and women are more susceptible than men. I, myself, get a headache when I am near geraniums. Not all peonies have a noticeable smell, so perhaps you could grow another variety.
