Need Thick Rind Cataloupe

Asked on 1 Jun, 2008

Nothing ever bothers my watermelons as they ripen but my cataloupes are a different story. What I am assuming is a shrew or related family member finds it quite easy to bore a quarter size hole in all of my cataloupe. Is there a cataloupe with a particularly thick rind or a melon of the cataloupe family that someone can reccomend? Thanks!

Hi Nan...I'm not a cantaloupe expert but perhaps you could interplant your cantaloupe bed with a plant that rodents don't like.? interplant some herbs that will repell the rodents...alliums...chamomile...thyme...sage. or plant a barrier of these plants around your cantaloupe. hope this helps.
