I have this fungi sprouting through bark chippings I laid down in my garden. Most of them are a purple colour but when picked they lighten to a fawn hue. Can somebody tell me what they are and are they safe to have with cats and dogs around?
Answers
Thanks for the reply. Do they have a name? Or are they one of the ones below?

A lot of people are noticing this, Hprlady. It is a part ot the decomposition process of the bark. They are not edible but will not do any harm in the garden. Wash your hands if you do handle them. We have two cats and they would not consider eating such things so you have nothing to concern yourself about there. They will back of very quickly but may reappear for the next year or two.
