I never prune mine at all actually.

I only snip off the long flower-less stems as they finish in the summer - but I leave them on now, until the spring.

I don't think you do - this plant can keel over during the winter, and cutting it beforehand would make that more likely. I'd be inclined to protect it a bit and prune next spring.
