No idea - need a closer pic of the bark - if its got a glossy, brown appearance it's a cherry of some kind, can't tell with no leaves or fruit or anything else.

Could be a rowan (sorbus) after the birds have had all the berries?

Well I would say it's a young deciduous tree of upright growth.......:o)

I think I detect a brown and glossy stem though, but its hard to tell for sure.

I agree Bamboo, the stem does look like it could be glossy so it may well be a Prunus of some sort. I can also see what looks like stem damage on the trunk lower down? If it is and this is a Prunus, it may look like this all next year too! Hopefully it is just the picture res.
