Can anyone identify this object for me? It was found near a pile of horse manure sacks on the smallholding. The material is natural but looks and feels like plastic. I think I know what it may be but would like your ideas please.
Thanks

Oh goody, quiz night!
The sections at the front of the pictures look as if they were the outer cases of a fungi, like puffballs, that have burst and spread their spore then dried out.
Maybe the rest of the material is the same but it was squashed beneath the sacks?
Any other offers?

I never knew you could put more than one picture on a question - is that something new??!!

Yes, I'd agree a puffball, but not a giant puffball, which are almost the size of a football. This is one of the many other species I suspect.

Yes, I agree with Sid, not a giant one, looks like a cluster of one of the smaller species.

Hi Norfolkapple, you said that you thought you knew what this was. Are your thought similar to ours?

Thanks everybody for your ideas.
Bulbaholic, yes I agree, either small puffballs or a similar type of fungus.
Maybe next year they will grow to a decent size. I am picking horse mushrooms off my main field at the moment.
Cheers
