I'd like to know what the trees are which are in that bed already, please? Any Birch, beech or Cherry?

i grow a lot in mid to deep shade. have a look at my plant lists and see if any take your fancy. then ask for further information and members will be happy to help.

Hellebores, Pulmonarias, Hostas, Aquelegias, Alchemilla mollis, lots of autumn flowering Cyclamen. Or Pieris (is the soil acidic or chalky?), Azaleas, dwarf Rhodos, Hydrangeas. Lots to choose from, try to have a sucession of colour, and how about an Acer dissectum for autumn colour?

You might have a problem getting any other new shrubs established in that bed if the above mentioned trees are present.
