Thanks Fractal.
I have three orange small plum sized fruit that smell rank.
I shall put one in a pot outside, dry one and plant one in the earth.
I don't know if they are male or female, but the tree is glorious, tall and beautiful, off British Grove in Chiswick W4.

They germinate very well , but you will have to wait now until the tree starts to leaf in Spring, then your seeds will sprout.

The simple answer is yes. Have you got fresh seed from a tree?
Don't think you can buy them.
If a male and female tree are near to each other, the female will produce plum sized fruit that turn rancid and smell awful when ripe. The stone can be planted and left outdoors where it will germinate in spring.
