have you tried them in glass vases with water, they can also look good, one member does this with paperwhites, her id is antigone, she has pics so you can see them , just a thought

I watched a garden centre gardener (small private nursery/gc) plant up bulbs for Christmas using General Purpose Compost. I asked why she was not using bulb fibre and the answer was there will be enough feeding in the GPC to last for the few short months this bulb is in the pot. Next year the bulb will likely be planted in the garden and it will flower again there.
