I was bought an orchid (botanical name -sainsbury's!) 4 years ago. It had a wonderful spray of flowers for 3 months then nothing. It now has 6 lovely healthy glossy leaves, plenty of roots, but no more flowers. It is watered with rainwater, lives in a humid bathroom & hasn't been repotted. Advice please !!

Hi - I wrote a blog this week on how to care for Orchids - click on my (dog) picture and then on 'blogs' - you'll find the list of blogs - it's called 'Awkward Orchids'.

This tells you how to get your orchid to flower again. Good luck.

If you have a phalanopsis orchid i think the reason it has'nt flowered is probably because you have repotted it, it likes to be confined and will put on lots of leaf growth and no flowers if it has the room to grow... i won't give you the advice you need as if you read either of the above you'll find it there...

Thanks for your advice. I have put the orchid out in the hall although there is not a lot of temperature difference. I gather that will all change this weekend though !! I thought the greenhouse might be a bit drastic. Angie A

greenhouse? did i saggest that? lol think i am going mad... lol the best place i would say is bathroom, not too hot or cold defussed light best and lots of steam but not if you have problems with condesation.... er i think lol... unless you have a cymbidium orchid, that can go in a greenhouse... oh now i'm confussed...lol

Angie - it's because I do the 'shock' treatment to get an orchid to bloom again. Read the 'Awkward Orchids' blog I wrote - you'll see.

Angie A - not the greenhouse! Not with the weather changing very soon - you'd kill it! Eeeekkk!!!!
