Unknown plant.

Does anyone recognise this plant. ( sorry for the poor diagram ). I remember it growing in our garden when I was a little boy, and in the gardens of several neighbours in that area, but I haven't seen it for many years. It has disappeared from all the gardens in the area where I grew up and I've never seen it anywhere else. Nobody I've asked remembers it except me when I was a child. It was a hardy perenial and grew to about 3 - 4 feet. It had fat catkin-like flowers and pinnate leaves. It is not Callistemon nor Amaranthus as some have suggested to me over the years. I would be grateful for any other suggestions Thank you, Blodyn.

Not familiar with Andrews plant suggestion but do you think Tamarisk might be an option?

Thanks Bonkersbon for the suggestion but it isn't Tamarisk, although I can see why one might think that.
It is actually Sanguisorba. I looked the name up on the google page and found a picture of it. It's name is Sanguisorba aff. hakusanensis. I haven't seen it since my childhood days. Now I'm going to send for one from the website.
