rejuvenating the soil?

I am not planiting a garden this year but would like to plant something that needs no attention but can be plowed under to help feed the soil. Or are there other things I can do to rejuvenate my soil?

Rye grass is pretty and often used for that purpose - see when that can be planted in your area. Rye can be purchased bulk - and don't mow it

Spuds? Rotivate. Weed seeds will have a party whatever while you're away!

Im at work and dont have any books with me but if you search Green Manure. This will help put nutrients back into the soil. As for looking good pretty flowers etc I'm not sure. But there are things you can grow to then dig back in for extra soil structure.
