can I grow a camomile lawn

Asked on 25 May, 2008

I would love a camomile lawn The space I have is about 5' x5'
however,!!! the soil in my garden is like solid clay rock hard when its dry and unworkable heavy lumps when its wet. the second problem is I live in a coastguard cottage facing the north east coast, whilst my garden gets lots of sun it is also open to the full force of a frequent north east wind.
Would a camomile lawn be possible? if so how would I go about it.

That would look and smell wonderful! I live in a similar environment. This herb spreads as a ground cover ("the more trodden the faster it spreads") so you would only need to amend the soil a few inches deep. Wind would be a larger issue - it might grow better behind a windbreak of something that grows densely all the way to the ground - or a raised bed. Please keep us posted!
