Try looking up 'rhododendron lace bug'.
Are there any insects on the underside of the leaves and rusty brown spots ?
These do occur on azaleas and other evergreens.

It's funny, I was very slack and didn't do anything about it, but it seems to have cleared up naturally :-)

I had a similar experience with my photinia, had the black spots so I cut off most of the leaves. Was ok for that summer then -same spots over winter. I left it and they disappeared of their own accord !!

How do I say thanks?
