Bulbs in pots for winter

Even during winter we can get some long dry periods. Don't let them dry out completely and the occasional watering may be necessary. But normally the weather will do most of the work for you.

Yes i agree with inverglen. and if the pots are against the wall they often dont get enough rain even in if the rest of the garden does.

I'd delay planting the tulips until at least November.

i put mine in as soon as i get them. less time for them to dry out in the overly hot shops. the ones that were in pots/ground from prevous years havent been lifted and they have done well subsequently.

thanks everyone as usual, I will keep an eye on the pots and water if it looks necessary. I am pretty good at winter pansies, do you all do as I do, which is keep taking the flowers off until the first week of December. Some people (my mum included) cant bear to do this, but it definitely makes a huge difference to the filling out and length of flowering period.

Looking forward to a new challenge with tulips and alliums.

i still am talking heads off and they have been flowering for a year now.
