A friend bought me a gerbera as a house plant. How do i know if I can plant it in the garden and will it survive the winter?

Just to repeat - if this Gerbera was a houseplant, it is not likely to survive outside. If it had the name 'Everlast' then it should. I wouldn't take the chance. :-(
