Field Maple leaves have gone white? why?

I purchased 4 small field maples. They are growing nicely and have new shoots BUT all the leaves seem to be covered in a white powder. It can only be removed by rubbing the leaves. What is causing this??

Sounds like mildew - buy a fungicide treatment spray and treat them with it.
