I have some small plants which I bought from T&M about six weeks ago.
I've planted them in pots and wonder where I should keep them for the winter? Can they stay outdoors, or do they need protection?
Thanks for any help.

What are they?

Too young to go out I think....even the pots could freeze solid

I agree Pam, I don't know why they sell such small plugs at this time of year.

They're perennials--too dark to go out now and read the labels, though I know there are carnations and digitalis.
So, I shouldn't leave them outside? The only other options I have are an unheated garage, an unheated, rather dark shed or a centrally heated conservatory.

Whatever they are they are much too small to have left mummy. They will have been grown in tunnels andd still be soft so would benefit from winter protection.

I think they sell them that size at this time of year, so they can sell you some more next year, after you,ve lost them in the winter, nice wrk if you can get it!!!!, Derek.

They must have been almost invisible when you got them,if you have already had them 6 weeks,Canalhopper ! ..I think I would bring them into your Conservatory..but away from a Radiator,or direct sunshine..maybe a cooler side,if possible? good luck anyway :o)

The tray on the right looks like Dianthus and Aquilegia with something else in the middle that is too immature for ID. I would plant out the Aquilegia seedlings as nothing seems to eat those. If you have a sunny well draining spot the the Dianthus can also be planted out. I would be tempted to keep the other seedlings inside your garage if it has natural light or the conservatory.

Please do not take our comments to heart, we are actually aiming it at T&M who should not be sending seedlings of that size at this time of year as they are difficult to over winter and keep going due to such short light that winter brings.

I agree with Kildermorie, just trying to be helpful, not criticising you..only the company that sent them....

Thanks for all the help. The garage it is then, the conservatory would be too warm. Presumably I should keep them moist?

YW,Canalhopper..yes,I would think just moist will be fine..

A heated conservatory would spur on growth but the poor sunlight strength and duration over winter will make them tall and thin and useless. You want small and stalky, so an unheated garage with natural light would be fine.

How do I say thanks?
