another pruning question I'm afraid! How and when should I prune a spirea arguta , I like the arching effect but it doeas get out of hand. Also the spirea goldflame and spirea anthony waterii, hope you can help.

The S arguta gets pruned after it flowers as the new flowers start to form on the wood late summer.

The goldflame is grown for its foliage mainly. I used to have one and i pruned that in the spring so the new growth was always there in a compact bush.

as for the last one dont know it but sure someone will know.

The best way is to prune out all flowered shoots after they have flowered, down to a strong new shoot. It's too late now so wait til next year and give it a good haircut. You won't kill it! By the 2nd year it will be flowering again profusely.
