Plant identification

I don't have a photo but this plant is in a woody, lightly shaded area - I'm in Massachusetts. It's about 2' tall with large leaves that are all at the top spread out (like and unbrella, about three/four at the top of each plant) The flower actually blooms under the leaves. The person whose mother planted it years ago thought that name was something like May Rose - and has medicinal properties.

Does the bloom turn into a berry? Then it is probably Mandrake/ May Apple. I believe the bloom is white on them...
but perhaps the are the same plant?

I think y ou are describing what I call a Mayflower. The bloom is on the stem under the leaves and is a salmon color.
