Clematis 'fascination'

I have a wonderful clematis with small stiff purple bells, growing in a pot. It is labelled clematis fascination, diversifolia group. It has finished flowering and I want to give it a better home in the ground. Would this be the right time to cut down the foliage, which is twined through trellis and replant it? What does 'diversifolia group' mean?
(By the way, I am finding this site so helpful and have already learnt an amazing amount from it! Thank you all very much!)

This Clematis is in 'Clematis Pruning Group 3'. Clematis which produce flowers from mid-summer onwards.
Clematis in pruning group three flower in late summer on growth made in that season and should be pruned in late winter or early spring.
Group 3 should be hard-pruned in late winter (mid February is a good time) by cutting all stems back to about 25cm (10in) above ground level. always ensure that each pruned stem has at least one good pair of buds on it
I would of said it be best to leave as much grow on now, although you will need to remove some to help it cope with the move, and as its finished flowering, there is no worry of upsettings the flowering next year.
Better still would be to move it Autumn time.
