you can use it as a mulch but it is best left for 4-6months before you spread it on the soil. otherwise as it breaksdown it removes soe of the nitrogen content.

I wouldn't keep it totally dry or it will take longer to decompose.

I put them in black bin bags and make sure there are some hoes in it and just leave them behiind the garage. they get rained on, snowed on etc. you may also find you get small toadstools growing on it to. nothing to worry about.

If you keep it in a bag, put a bit of garden compost with red worms in the bag to get it started.
