Why have my runner beans got no flavour?

Hi trevjay welcome to GOY I don't know the answer to that unless it's just a bad year for runner beans, mine are still at the flower stage.

Sorry,I don't know the answer, either. This year, I grew 'White Lady' for the first time, and they're delicious.
Did you feed your plants while they were growing?

I suspect it IS the variety. Especially if you have had good results before. I have tried some of the modern ones and find that they do not compare to the tried and tested oldies! Having said which - some of the newer and what I call "flat" runners do very well - even up here in Scotland - and taste mighty fine too. I would doubt if there is anything you can do for you current crop though - just revert next year to ones you know are good!

I agree. From time to time have tried different varieties but keep coming back to my personal favourite Scarlet Emperor ; for me , big crop and big flavour
