I have a little garden and I want to lay some turf, the area is only 6mx2m. The soil had a weed preventer sheet on it for years, and has been bare (apart from loads of weeds) for a couple of years. I have killed off the weeds and dug most of it over. However, there is a lot of debris in it, like rocks and gravel and old roots that I haven't been able to get up. Is it worth getting rid of the top couple of centimetres of soil and digging in some compost? I looked at top soil and its really expensive!
The part the grass is going on is covered with a load of cuttings in the picture, its just so you have an idea of what I've got to work with.
Any help would be much appreciated!
