I am installing a back garden water feature soon and need some general advice.

bought in local garden store and have some REAL stone to surround it.........any tips on positioning and is it true that rain water is better than tap water?

welcome to GoY Bigtom. it depends on the type of water feature you have.
best bit of advice is make sure it is level as any tiny slant will be really obvious. Are you intending to put plants in it? again place where it will get enough light.

Tap water is only a problem if you plan to put fish in. We have a pond and when it is fully cleaned out and refilled we have to leave it to stand for a few days to allow the chlorine to disippate. Dont know what they add to your water in ireland but it is probably the same as here. after that the rain does the job except for the odd tap top up when its level has dropped. the fish dont seem to mind that though.

so be sure to post photos when you are done [even better are work in progress shots :o)]
