This is called 'blossom end rot' and it's usually caused by irregular watering.

As to feeding, it's normal to start feeding your plants when the first truss of tomatoes has started to form. Follow the instructions on the bottle of feed.

Good luck!

Blossom end rot can also be caused by over fertilization with nitrogen. Rapid vegetative growth caused by the nitrogen causes the plant to grow too quickly and the roots cannot absorb enough moisture to supply the vegetation and the fruit.....the fruit is served last and ends up with blossom end rot.
Make sure you use a fertilizer for tomato plants....preferably one with a lower nitrogen (first number) such as a 5 - 10 - 10 for example.
Keep to a regular watering schedule. I water mine daily.....sometimes twice a day if the temps get above 90F.

Yes - I should think so too! It's tipping it down out there...again. July has been almost a complete wash-out, sadly. No gardening today! :-(

Oh Spritz....we are just the opposite. 97F this afternoon. We had a smattering of rain yesterday which evaporated almost before it hit the ground. I wish I could send some heat and sun your way.
