What is it???

I have a very large spikey plant by my gate,its sort of purple in colour,with giant stalks with pods on the end,it stands about 12-15 ft tall and I have noticed this year the pods which have now opened into little yellow flowers are attracting wasps in their masses,does anyone know what this is?

It sounds like one of the wild sow thistles, but as said a picture speaks a thousand words.

Figwort attracts wasps and is sort of purple. Are the flowers very small and only yellow in the middle? Are the stems slightly squarish or straight sided in places? Wouldn't say the stalks are 'giant' though. Look forward to seeing your photo.
