what plant is this?

I have growing in my garden a large bush it has very sharp thorns along the stems and red flowers, now along the woody stems/twigs it has green fruits?. It looks like a tree but is growing outwards not upwards. sorry cant do photo.

Sounds like Chaenomeles japonica, the quince. If it flowered in the spring just before the leaves, the stems are dark brown to blackish, and it's now forming fruits, that's what it is.
