is ceanothus repens long flowering?

West Midlands, United Kingdom Gb

how long does it flower for? I've received 4 plug plants with an orders for other plants. I've given one away so far and I'm sure there will be more willing takers, but any info would be gratefully received such as, has anyone tried them in containers etc?

Yes i planted two that i got free with another plant order...both of them are in pots and flowering...I used a free-draining compost and 3L pots and positioned them in the sun, im keeping them well watered, ...i would probably site them somewhere sheltered during the winter months...or maybe take them indoors....each year i hope to pot them on into bigger pots....If any-one can give Bornagain and me any more info that would be great....:>)

Flowers for about 4 weeks, needs shelter in the winter, particularly when young and especially in pots. Trim over when flowering is finished.

Thanks, 4 weeks.... not a very long time... is it quite spectacular in flower, is it worth a place in a small garden, or is it more of a background plant? Is there a reason the plant companies are giving them away? Am I being too cynical? Am I asking too many questions?

Yea, you're asking too many questions! No, only joking, and yes, there's a reason why they're giving them away - they've finished flowering this year, so they know you won't get any flowers till at least next year, and probably not till the next - just means they'd got hold of them cheap or had too many. If it really is C. repens, then it won't get too big, approx. 3 x 3, it's a nice evergreen bush and the flowers are beautiful. They are variable though - sometimes a plant labelled with this gets much bigger - just means it's been mislabelled, but you can always get rid if it gets too big. No good for summer display in pots though.

I think you are being a tad cynical BornA...lol...I think it is worth a place in any garden..its a lovely plant..the plant companies always give freebies, at the moment im waiting on 4 free lavender and last year i got 5 lily bulbs free and the Knautia on my photo profile was free.. oh yes 12 begonia free once...The freebies will change from time to time, so i dont think they are looking rid of the ceanothus in particular and if they are they can send them in my direcrion lol..:>).....Oh and my 'repens' is flowering away.

Ok motinot I'll keep 1 then and find a place for it. I must say that 3 of the plants have buds on, they were only plug plants, but appear to be healthy. One more question Bamboo, can I prune it if it isn't repens or is and still gets too big?

Don't worry about it - you'll soon know if its the wrong variety and no, you won't be able to keep it as small as you'd like. Enjoy it, it's beautiful when in flower.
