I have bamboo in pots on my patio and I wanted to know if I can put slate over the top of the soil, or if this will stop the bamboo shooting and therefore growing bigger?

The bamboo will outgrow the whole pot eventually. I'd consider getting bamboo membrane to stop it spreading and get it in the ground.

Bamboo shoots are very strong and will easily pass through slate provided it isn't too thickly laid. Henders
