Ive got some variegated acers but 2 have been attacked by something, it doesnt seem to be snails/slugs & no signs of aphids. Can anyone help please

Answers
A pic or a description of the damage would be good. Slugs do attack Acer leaves as do Vine Weevils and Caterpillars. They all do different looking damage that is why we are asking for a pic/description as the remedy is also different.
