UNKNOWN BUDS

Asked on 2 Jun, 2008 2 replies

In early Spring I had a large clump of grape hyacinths that bloomed and died. Now in the same spot I have this huge plant with tons of buds and I don't know what it is. I think the grape hyacinth plant must still be under this somewhere. Any ideas appreciated.

Updating old stone-dust garden path

Asked on 2 Jun, 2008 1 reply

Our stone dust garden path was professionally laid 14 years ago. The ground underneath is pretty much solid rock. We now have weeds that are impossible to keep ahead of (we prefer not to use a herbicide) and so are planning to top up the path with another inch or two of stone dust. Is this apt to solve our weed problem? Should we lay weed cloth first or will the stone dust wash off it? We plan to rent a compactor. Should the stone dust be wet or dry when being compacted?

Help with seeds

Asked on 2 Jun, 2008 3 replies

I planted some plant seeds in a seed tray 3 weeks ago. Nothing has appeared yet. Do you know how long it should be before I see any shoots appearing? (I am a real beginner with this, so please bear with me). The seeds were a gift from someone who visited New Zealand, so they are native plants from over there. They are:Mount Cook Lily (ranunculus lyallii) and Chatham Island Forget-Me-Not Blue (kopukapuka myosotidium hortensia)Hope you can help!

coco-lined planters

Asked on 2 Jun, 2008 2 replies

I put a mature pothos in a coco lined hanging planter and it fared badly (did fine in a plastic pot), lost maybe a third to half of it's leaves. I like the way hanging plants look in them but now I'm hesitant to use them with any plants I really care about--afraid I'll lose them. Are there any tricks to successfully using these things, any type of prepping you have to do before putting your plants in, etc? Any info on the best way to use coco-lined planters for indoor or outdoor plants would be appreciated. Thank you. --Pam in Mass
