Poynton, you asked a question about pruning Lavatera on your profile instead of on the question page - but never mind, I found it - welcome to GOY and I'll try to explain the process. Dead-head as all the flowers on a flower spike die. Wait until the autumn then cut each spike back by at least two thirds to a pair of healthy buds. You need to do this every year to keep your plant compact and under control.
