Tricyrtis

Tricyrtis (Tricyrtis formosana (Toad Lily))

I don't know why they are called 'Toad lilies'.

Aren't they just gorgeous and so many types, they look more like an Orchid. Beautiful!

I think it is called Toad lily because...
Once upon a time it was a toad than a beautiful Princess came along and kissed the toad that became this gorgeous flower!
Unleash your fantasy.

Wow, what a beauty. I totally agree with Janey. They really make me think of orchids. In a word: fantastic! Are they difficult to grow, Spritzhenry?

No, I was given a cutting and popped it in a shady position - up it came, no problem! I do hope it has survived all this frost, though.

They should be fine Spritz as they will grow out here, hardy zones 4 - 8. I just ordered three of these from Veseys. One rose pink, one magenta and one purple.

Can someone tell me the flowering period for these beautiful flowers? And when to order them. please?

This one was well in flower when I bought it, so that was last October. I think they flower quite late in the season. I would check them out in a Nursery plant list and order them whenever - just remember that they wil be dormant at the moment, so when you plant them, mark the spot!
