Purple Loosestrife

Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria)

This is the native plant - I grew some from seed, and they're very happy on the stream bank.

Yes - I'm a bit surprised that more haven't appeared, as seedlings. Maybe I weeded them out without realising, though. :(((

I love this, have it growing near the pond

The native one or one of the cultivated ones?

25 Jul, 2010

must be one of the cultivated ones, I've lost the label and can't remember which one it is LOL

I have 'Robert', 'Blush' and Lady Sackville'. Robert is the brightest pink and tall, Blush is pale pink, and Lady S. is small but similar in colour to the native one. Does that help?

26 Jul, 2010

must be Robert then :-)

He's the best one I think. :-)))

me too :-)

The others are just not tall enough. I should have got another 'Robert' instead.

just have to go back to that nursery again then LOL

Hmmmm.....maybe.....it seems a shame to dig out the other one. I'll put up with it this year and think again next time.

it does really, and I still like this one too

The new ones (last year and this) aren't nearly as vigorous as the native ones, or 'Robert'. Such a shame. 'Blush' is a really pretty pale pink - but it's only just over a foot high and not many stems, either. :-((

See who else is growing Lythrum salicaria.

See who else has plants in genus Lythrum.

This photo is of "Loosestrife" in Spritzhenry's garden
