Lilium Martagon

Lilium Martagon (Lilium martagon (Common turkscap lily))

Look what it's done this year! In the past I've had only about a third this amount of blooms, on much longer stems. This year it has smaller blooms, loads of them and just on really short stems. It's weird....wonder what it will do next year!

That is truly brilliant Karen!

Well thanks everyone but honest, all I did was plant it and it's given a different 'performance' every year so far!

All that rain wot did it Karen. Looks like an upside down Hyacinth to me .

I agree Dorjac. I'm not keen on it myself.

But if you had a whole stand of them, they would be magnificent. Some plants just need to be in a crowd!

That's true. I would love more of these, but they are sooo expensive Melchi. I can't bring myself to spend the money!

26 Jul, 2012

Quite understand that, Karen! I'm just the same. I'd be sure to spend £££ on something wonderful and lose it by next season!

That would be 'really' annoying wouldn't it? The way this year has been, I wonder how long some of my Roses will survive. I decided to cut two right back hard today...they were just ruined by blackspot. All my roses have it to a greater or lesser extent and those two were horrendous...such ugly messes. I've sprayed again, second time this year only as it's just been too wet and windy. Grrrr....

I read that blackspot can only thrive in clean air. That's cold comfort, I'm afraid.

26 Jul, 2012

Well, yes, I suppose we do have lovely 'clean' air here...and yes, it is a little cold comfort, but it also puts a positive spin on blackspot, which is no small achievement!

28 Jul, 2012

Oh good - I'm all for positive spin!
