Did you see 'Rolf Fiedler' a short while ago? He's blue - and beautiful. I hope he clumps up like this one does.

Beautiful form.

Yes, I really like these little fellas. I bought a pink one...but it didn't come to anything. :-(((((

I love these :-)
I have 'Froyles Mill', which is a purple one - flowering now.

22 Mar, 2010

Where did you find that, Louise???

22 Mar, 2010

I got it a few years ago from Pottertons, Spritz.

I've just looked this up to see if it would grow here and talk about a personality disorder - has been known as ' bouvardia, brodiaea, leucocoryne, milla, tristagma, and triteleia'. Too tender for me though!

22 Mar, 2010

Why does a plant have its name changed .... what's the logic/point of it .... especially so many times ?

22 Mar, 2010

Nahhhh - don't believe it! I haven't had any probs with these, and they aren't Brodiaea, I grow those! Leucoryne? Nope. I tried them, and they wouldn't flower. Tritelia is the same as Brodiaea.....never heard of the other names, though. I'll check them out in my bulb books.

Where did you read all this, Wagger, by the way?

22 Mar, 2010

At: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/howtogrow/3344145/Ipheion-uniflorum-How-to-grow.html

22 Mar, 2010

Wow! I have to apologise for being so disbelieving about all those names, Wagger...my Dr. Hessayon lists them, too. However, under 'Brodiaea' he says that it's also known as Tritelia - but not Ipheion! How weird and confusing is that?

22 Mar, 2010

They don't make it easy, do they?

22 Mar, 2010

Dr. H also says they are hardy, apart from 'Rolf Fiedler' which might be slightly tender. (Boo hoo!)

22 Mar, 2010

But the BBC Pland Finder site calls it half hardy. "Plant it in well-drained soil in full sun and protect the bulbs in winter with a thick mulch." Where does that leave me? Confused.com, that's where! lol

22 Mar, 2010

I give up,Wagger! (I hope 'they' don't though!) LOL.

22 Mar, 2010

Shouldn't be a problem where you are.

22 Mar, 2010

I do hope not - they've been in for at least three years, except Rolf - I bought a pot this spring.

22 Mar, 2010

Hmmm, mine certainly aren't in full sun. They get a part days sun, are in thin poor soil and no sign of a mulch over winter ! They were planted, then forgotten !
I 'do' think that the reference books exaggerate tenderness issues at times.

23 Mar, 2010

We've found that before on GOY, haven't we - maybe we should write our own GOY book!
