Geum Rivale 'Leonard's Variety'

Geum Rivale 'Leonard's Variety' (Geum rivale (Bach-Nelkenwurz))

This is a lovely plant for damp soil. I planted it last year and it didn't flower at all, so I'm really pleased to see this flower....I love the colour.

Gosh Karen, mine is nowhere near flowering, but it flowered its socks off last year for many months with a short break in between. I think it one of the most beautiful geums:-)

I've just looked back through my photos and found that this geum was in full flower by April last year, as was trollius alabaster and both of the are nowhere near flowering this may:-(

That's really interesting Bornagain. I think our gardens here are pretty much the same as last year, although there were two hot weeks in April last year, whereas this year, only the one in March. We didn't have a hard winter this year though. Colder than average for sure, but nothing like the previous 2.

I wonder if the plants were conned into thinking last late summer was spring after the cold summer. I don't think they are supposed to flower so profusely twice in a year which mine did last year. The leaves look healthy and they've had no shortage af water. Perhaps they're wondering how come they're supposed to flower again so soon after flowering well into September:-)

Well, I suppose that's possible BA. This is the first ever flower on mine.

I've been looking at these on various websites today....nearly ordered two more, but I got control of myself just in time! I've already ordered two plants from Crocus today, a Rosa Xanthinia 'Canary Bird' and a Clematis Vit. 'Etoile Violette' (can't believe I don't already have that one!).

7 May, 2012

What youve ordered Karen are two of my favourites. I've been toying with Canary Bird for ages, haven't any more room left though.....:((. Just love the clematis...it would have been great if they flowered together....Canary Bird is one of the first roses to flower isn't it...about now, and that ferny foliage....I MUST have room somewhere...:)))

Yes Janey. I saw it the rose...yesterday at Brechin Castle open day. I was bowled over by the flower AND the foliage. And it has a strong scent too! It will be superb on my new arches, flowering now as you say! The clematis is going to grow with Mme.Julia Correvon in to my holly hedge....I think it will make a very colourful 'clash'. The colour is stunning and as I say, I can't believe I don't already have it....I had to check my catalogue twice before I was totally convinced I didn't!
