Chamaerops humilis 'Cerifera'

Chamaerops humilis 'Cerifera' (Chamaerops humilis 'Cerifera')

This very glaucous palm is popular here in San Diego. It doesn't grow very fast and takes many decades to become large. Photo taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on Jan. 8, 2017.

How does it photosynthesise without any green I wonder?

The fronds are actually green. It just has the glaucuous coating on the fronds.

Makes sense...

I know the glaucuous coating makes it look like it's white or a bluish cast in the sun.

I dont think I've seen one live. I have a B.armata..so where to put the Cerifera?...but they are one of the best hardy palms out there..even rival the tropicals.

Really. I'm sure there's several in the SF Bay Area.

We have a small one in a pot in the front yard and my neighbor has one that's probably 12' tall in their front yard.
